Biography
Dr Gomez Arana joined Northumbria University as a Senior Lecturer in International Relations in May 2020. She has previously taught at several universities in the UK, and in 2015 she was a visiting lecturer at Bamberg University (Germany) as part of the Erasmus+ staff mobility programme. Dr. Gomez Arana is currently a Trustee and Elected Committee Member of UACES (2019-2022) and was previously a Co-convener of BISA European Security Working Group (2018-2020). In addition, Dr. Gomez Arana collaborates with external partners such as Fundacion Carolina and has experience as a Research Assistant and as a Research Associate as part of several projects funded by the European Commission. She has received external funding for different projects and welcomes potential collaborations in research projects that are related to her research interests. Dr. Gomez Arana research interests include several areas. She has published on European Union External Relations towards other countries or group of countries in the Mediterranean and in Latin America. Since 2016 she has researched the question of borders and the European Union in relation to Brexit, as well as Gibraltar, Libya and Catalonia. Dr. Gomez Arana is currently looking at border issues between Brazil and Argentina among other Mercosur countries, within the context of the impact of the pandemic.
