School of Law

Ukrainian Catholic University

The Law School was established by the Ukrainian Catholic University, its sole founder. As part of the university, it contributes to the realization of its mission: to be an open academic community rooted in the Eastern Christian tradition and to educate leaders of society, professionals, to serve Ukraine and beyond, for the glory of God, common good, and human dignity.

The creation of the UCU Law School was a requirement of the time and the university’s response to the challenges of the Revolution of Dignity in 2013-2014. Then, the understanding crystallized that the implementation of the mission and vision of UCU should continue, mainly through the formation of a legal direction at the university. Legal projects at UCU aim to promote a value-oriented reboot of the legal system.

The Law School operates within the UCU Faculty of Social Sciences structure. It is a space for forming an influential community of like-minded people ready to uphold the same values and standards in the legal profession – in particular, service to society, moral responsibility, ethics, respect for human dignity, and human rights.

The USAID Justice for All Activity (J4A) in collaboration with the University Association for Contemporary European Studies is supporting Ukrainian law schools in their efforts to improve the teaching of EU law to help raise new generations of Ukrainian legal professionals with solid understanding of and skills to apply EU law to advance Ukraine’s integration into the EU. To this end, J4A supports Ukrainian law schools in building bridges with foreign law schools with expertise in EU law for international experience exchange and collaboration. J4A also facilitates the development of a network/community of practice composed of Ukrainian instructors of EU law and seeks to create learning and development opportunities for Ukrainian law schools and their faculty and channel them through such a network/community of practice for greater engagement, closer people-to-people contacts, and continuous improvement.
