European Institute

The European Institute was established at LSE in 1991 as multidisciplinary centre for the study of European politics, economics and culture in a globalised world.

The EI’s disciplinary range is unrivalled, with distinguished academics, researchers and visiting scholars drawn from the fields of politics, economics, geography, history, political economy, philosophy, public policy, sociology and international relations.

The department offers four MSc programmes, and three double MSc degree programmes with global partner institutions in China (Fudan University, Shanghai), France (Sciences Po, Paris), and Italy (Bocconi University, Milan).

The European Institute was designated a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in 2009, and in the most recent national Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) was ranked first for research in Area Studies.
