Events and Programmes Coordinator

Are you highly organised, calm under pressure and great with people? Do you enjoy making events run smoothly behind the scenes?

UACES (University Association for Contemporary European Studies) is seeking an Events and Programmes Coordinator to join our small, high-performing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves organising to coordinate our Annual Conference, Graduate Forum Conference, webinar series, awards and grants. It's an ideal role if you're starting your career in events or looking for your first role outside academia.

Why should you join us?

  • You will play a key role in delivering UACES events and programmes that bring our community together in the UK and across Europe.

  • You will meet, support and work with a passionate and dedicated community of scholars, researchers and students.

  • We will support you to develop your skills and knowledge, with regular 1-1s, appraisals and a training plan.

  • We offer a 35-hour week, a 10% employer pension contribution after probation, private healthcare and time off in lieu for event attendance.

  • We offer flexible and hybrid working. The team also meets regularly in person, including team days and member visits around the UK.

About you

You'll be a highly organised coordinator with:

  • Experience of organising events, programmes or activities in a professional, academic, students' union or volunteer setting.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Confidence using databases, spreadsheets or CRM systems to manage information accurately.

  • Experience of working with suppliers or venues and working within budgets.

  • The ability to prioritise your workload and manage several deadlines at once.

Experience of working with academic communities or volunteer committees would be an advantage but is not essential.

Contract

  • Contract: Permanent, full-time.

  • Hours: 35 hours per week.

  • Salary: £26,000 to £28,000 depending on experience, plus excellent benefits.

  • Location: Hybrid, with one day a week in our London office and working arrangements open to discussion.

  • Reports to: Executive Director.

  • Notice period: Three months.

Candidates should have the right to work in the UK at the time of appointment.

Appointment is subject to receiving two satisfactory references and successfully completing a three-month probationary period.

About UACES

UACES is a global membership charity for academics, students and practitioners interested in all aspects of Europe and the European Union. Our core purpose is to support and empower our community to advance education for the public benefit through the teaching and research of contemporary European Studies. Our 1,000+ members have backgrounds in various disciplines, including politics, international relations, law, sociology, economics and humanities.

Why European Studies Matters

European Studies is essential for understanding the history, politics, economics and societies of Europe, as well as its influence on the world and our collective future. The interdisciplinary nature of European Studies enables diverse perspectives on contemporary challenges such as social equity, sustainability, security, trust and digital transformation. These issues resonate far beyond Europe's borders. Crucially, European Studies bridges the gap between academia and society, shaping public discourse, informing policymaking and addressing complex, real-world problems with a multidisciplinary lens. As a hub for European Studies, UACES empowers a global community of scholars, educators and practitioners. Together, we advance research, foster collaboration and equip society to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
