Midi de l'Europe Seminar - 19 April 2018 - Brussels Negotiating Brexit: Citizens' Rights and the Special Case of Ireland
It is with great pleasure that the Institute for European Studies invites you to the next Midi de l'Europe seminar on "Negotiating Brexit: Citizens' Rights and the Special Case of Ireland". This seminar will take place at Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles on 19 April 2018.
In April 2017, the European Council identified that Brexit could have a particularly dramatic impact on the rights of EU citizens, on the one hand, and on the Northern Ireland Peace Process, on the other.
After one year of difficult negotiations, this Midi de l'Europe provides a timely opportunity to explore how these sensitive issues are being dealt with, and to consider the wider implications of any eventual "deal". In this context, Professor Michael Keating (University of Aberdeen, UK) will discuss how Brexit might impact on Northern Ireland, the island of Ireland, and Anglo-Irish relations, while Professor Eleanor Spaventa (Durham University, UK) will look at its impact on EU citizens. The panel will be chaired by Eadaoin Ni Chaoimh (PhD Candidate - USL-B).
The speaker interventions will be followed by a Q&A session. Students, academics, researchers, practitioners and any other person interested in this topical issue are therefore warmly invited to attend!
- Date: Thursday 19 April 2018 from 13h to 15h.
- Venue: Salle du Conseil at Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles (4th floor - 43, Boulevard du Jardin botanique - 1000 Bruxelles).
- Registration: free but mandatory via this form.
