Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) Fellowship

Know a leader in Social Sciences? Nominate them for AcSS Fellowship!

Details

The Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) is accepting nominations for new Fellows, and UACES members have the opportunity to recognise outstanding contributions in the field. You can nominate yourself or another deserving individual who has made a distinguished and impactful contribution to the social sciences. The nominee must be a member of UACES.

Nominees can come from any social science discipline, including interdisciplinary fields, and may have contributed through research, teaching, professional practice, consultancy, or by promoting and advancing social science knowledge. Candidates based overseas who have significantly engaged with UK social science and achieved international recognition are also eligible.

The next deadline is 24 November 2024.

Requirements

Nominees must be people of a suitable established status and reputation. Nominees must have made a substantial contribution to wider social science – to policy or practice – going beyond the normal requirements of their position.

Some of the requirements, as set by the AcSS, include:

  • Eminence and Impact: The nominee must be a leading figure in social science, recognised for significant contributions that extend beyond their role.
  • Substantial Contributions: Contributions can be in various areas, including research, teaching, professional practice, policy, and promotion of social science.
  • Academic Nominees: Typically, academic nominees should be at or near the professorial level, with a strong record of research and publications.
  • Practitioner Nominees: Professionals in fields like psychology or market research may qualify if they have applied innovative approaches and had a significant impact.
  • Non-UK Nominees: Candidates based outside the UK must show substantial engagement with and contributions to UK social science.
  • Nominators: Must come from a different institution than the nominee and not be close relatives.
  • Supporting Documents: Include a tailored CV (maximum 4 pages) and a detailed justification statement (up to 500 words).

Process

To make a nomination, you need to complete this short Jotform which requires the following information:

  • Name of the nominee.
  • A couple of paragraphs on how this person meets the AcSS nomination criteria (maximum 100 words).
  • Name of the nominator.

This information will be shared with the UACES Committee who will review all nominations and draw up a shortlist. This shortlist will then be shared with the AcSS, who will make the final decision. The AcSS' Nominations Committee will meet in January to consider cases.
