Faculty of Social Sciences (FSV UK) is a regional teaching and research centre in area studies, modern history, international relations, political science, economics, sociology, media studies and journalism. Established in 1990, it is one of the youngest faculties of Charles University, one of the oldest universities in Europe. Within the Faculty, the Institute of International Studies has cultivated multidisciplinary research and teaching on current affairs in Europe, Eurasia and North America. It has hosted the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Studies four times and several Jean Monnet Chairs and Modules. The Institute is highly connected to similar institutions in Europe and beyond. Its researchers have participated in numerous collaborative research projects over the past two decades (such as FP7's MERCURY and TRANSWORLD and H2020's S4D4C, POPREBEL, DEMOS and FATIGUE). The Institute coordinates the Erasmus Mundus joint Master's degree in European Politics and Society.
