JCMS Editorial Assistant

Are you passionate about European Studies and academic journal publishing? Do you have excellent administration skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders? 

UACES (University Association for Contemporary European Studies) is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join our small, high-performing team. 

You will play a pivotal role in delivering an efficient service to JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies authors, reviewers and editors. Working closely with the Editors-in-Chief and UACES office team, you’ll provide administration support to deliver a seamless submission and peer review process and support the promotion of the latest research to a wide audience.

About You 

We’re looking for: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • A passion for delivering an excellent author experience. 

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships. 

  • Experience with manuscript submission systems and academic journal publishing. 

  • Analytical skills to assess and improve the performance of the journal. 

  • A collaborative team player who is also able to work independently. 

 

Contract 

Contract: Permanent, part-time. 

Hours: 7 hours per week. 

Salary: £13.85 per hour plus benefits. 

Location: Remote with occasional travel to the UACES office or events. 

Reports to: Executive Director with regular communication with journal editors. 

Notice period: One month. 

Candidates should have the right to work in the UK at the time of appointment. 

Appointment is subject to receiving two satisfactory references and successfully completing a three-month probationary period.

UACES is also willing to discuss contracting this role to someone who is not based in the UK. In this instance, you would not be a direct employee of UACES, but we would draw up an appropriate freelance contract and you would invoice us for your time. You would then be responsible for any tax or social security payments due in the country in which you live and/or work. You would not be entitled to the employee benefits listed above.
