Sport&EU Round table on the European Model of Sport

The event will take place on 2nd December between 11.00 and 14.00 (CET) at Rijeka University’s Faculty of Law, and will also be streamed online for those unable to join in person.

This hybrid event will include a keynote speech by Prof. Simona Kustec, longstanding member of Sport&EU and former Slovenian minister of Education, Science and Sport, who was in charge of the EU presidency when the Council adopted conclusions on the European Sport Model. This will be followed by a round table discussion, and Q&A.

Round table participants will include Sport&EU’s honorary chair, Professor Richard Parrish (Edge Hill University), Dr Zlatko Matesa (President of Croatia’s NOC), Paulina Tomczyk (EU Athletes Secretary General), Dr Christophe Lepetit (Centre for Sports Law and Economics, Limoges, TBC), Ass. Prof. Vanja Smokvina (Rijeka University).

11.30 CET: Keynote lecture (Prof. Simona Kustec)

11.50 CET: Round table discussion

13.20 CET: Q&A with the audience

14.00 CET: END

This event launches a longer-term research collaboration on the European Model of Sport between Loughborough University’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences and Rijeka University’s Centre for Sports Law, Sports Policy and Sports Diplomacy, led by Dr Borja García and Ass. Prof. Vanja Smokvina.

The event is open to all, and we would invite UACES members to join us on the day for discussions on European sport regulation just a few days before the CJEU Advocate General delivers their opinion on the landmark ISU and Superleague cases.
