Climate Change and Digitalisation: setting the context

This partnership is realised within the transnational knowledge cooperation network PRODIGEES - a network aimed at creating a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the impact of digitalisation across the social, economic and environmental dimension of sustainable development and its governance. PRODIGEES is funded by the EU’s Horizon2020 programme.

The webinar aims to explore the relation between two current great transformations - digitalisation and climate change - and their interlinkages. 

In a first part on Thursday, 10 December, Simone Lucatello will discuss The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report and hard science about climate change. He will set the context and review IPCC ‘s latest scientific assessments on climate change, its implications and potential future risks, and discuss adaptation and mitigation options.

The second part, Climate changes and Digitalisation on Thursday, 21 January will look at how digitalisation may impact socio-economic and environmental dynamics in communities by using innovative high-tech devices to transform conventional approaches such as geo-apps for smart communities or digital risk analysis tools.  

Simone Lucatello, Researcher at Instituto de Investigaciones Dr. José María Luis Mora, Mexico

Simone Lucatello is a Full-time Researcher at Instituto Mora, a public research centre based in Mexico City, Mexico. He holds a joint BA in History from the University of Venice Cá Foscari, Italy, and University College London (UCL), an MA in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a PhD in Governance for Sustainable Development from Venice International University (VIU), Italy. His research interests deal with disaster relief, climate change, humanitarian action and sustainability.

Lucatello has worked as consultant to many United Nations agencies, including UNEP, UNODC, UNIC and OCHA, as well as the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). He is author of more than ten books and many articles published in English, Spanish, and Italian. He is an IPCC (intergovernmental Panel for Climate change)  leading author for the Ar6 and coordinating author for the North American Chapter.
