This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the resources dedicated by the EU towards the transition to a more sustainable future. It does so through a review of the different instruments, policies and actors involved in environmental and sustainability initiatives across time, while scrutinising the potential for success of the more recent initiatives, such as climate bonds or the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. The European Green Deal is used as contextualisation framework, with a final aim at responding two main questions: Who pays (and how) for the necessary changes towards a more sustainable future? And, given the EU's self-proclaimed leadership on environmental and climate commitments - Do its actions concur with a weak or strong sustainability approach?
