UACES 44th Annual Conference
Cork, 1-3 September 2014
Cork, Ireland's vibrant and welcoming southern city, is set on an island in the centre of the River Lee. It is the ideal size for weekend break and can be explored easily on foot. It is also the perfect gateway for experiencing the real, rural Ireland lying just beyond, scattered with ancient sites, pretty villages, breathtaking coastline and tranquil rolling countryside.
Nearby is Cobh, the city's main port and harbour with a fascinating maritime history; it was the departure point for millions of emigrants who left Ireland for America and the last port of call for the ill-fated Titanic.
Or perhaps you might be interested in visiting the seaside town of Kinsale, famous for being the gourmet capital of Ireland, not to be missed if you like delicious seafood.
In 2010, Cork was voted by Lonely Planet as one of the best places to travel to - the city has a laid-back vibe complemented with an array of excellent restaurants, chic bars and lively pubs and seriously good summertime festivals.
