European Studies Program
Ateneo de Manila University
Launched in 1998, the Program is one of the long-running outcomes of a European Commission higher education project to promote awareness of the European Union in the Philippines and to develop a group of Filipino experts on EU affairs.
In teaching the European experience, the Program takes the interdisciplinary route. To this day, the Program continues to pool faculty with a wide range of expertise on Europe. It draws educators from various academic departments of the university, whose expertise include economics, international law, languages, political science, business, history and socio-anthropology. These faculty members draw from their extensive professional experience in international business management and diplomacy. The Program has also welcomed visiting lecturers from various universities and professional affiliations in Europe. Besides teaching and conducting research projects, Ateneo European Studies faculty frequently engage in speaking, training, and outreach outside the university.
The Program offers an undergraduate AB European Studies degree (with two tracks - Business and Economics; and International Relations Track). Meanwhile, the Master of Arts in European Studies - Comparative Regional Relations of Asia and Europe will have its first intake of graduate students in 2017.
In the near future, the Program intends to offer a PhD Research degree in European Studies as well as to establish an Ateneo Centre for Research on Europe (ACRE).
