Institute of World Economy

Corvinus University

The Institute of World Economy has recently celebrated the 70th anniversary of its existence, and is one of the oldest institutions of Corvinus University of Budapest, playing an important role in the university education and research.

Our institute is present in all three levels of higher education (Bachelor, Master, and PhD). We have programmes in Hungarian and English as well. Our MSc in International Economics and Management currently is the only programme in Hungary which offers a scholarship in this field. In response to the demands of the labour market, our MSc programme offers the following specializations: International Economic Analysis, EU Economic Policy Analysis, and International Development.

Besides, IWE operates its own sub-programme at the International Relations Multidisciplinary Ph.D. School, and we are involved with unique double degree programmes with several outstanding higher education institutions around the world: including the University College London, University of Groningen, University of Adelaide and the University of Western Australia. Our colleagues have diverse and varied educational and research portfolios. We offer basic and advanced level modules in the field of international and world economics, international finance, international political economy, economics of development, economics of integration, international economic relations and institutions, or multinational corporations and banking systems. Our institute is involved in the training of mid-tier and senior managers of Hungary who are not only interested in knowing the world and the world economy, but also actively shape them.

The value of the Institute of World Economy is in its community. Uniquely in the university, we have three colleagues, who are members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Our institute is also proud to be a leading player in two successful Horizon 2020 programs (Fatigue and Poprebel) supported by the European Union. Our colleagues have published in highly ranked journals such as Journal of Common Market Studies, Democratization, International Migration, Journal of International Development, or with well known publishers such as Routledge, Palgrave, Edward Elgar, Pearson.
