The Centre for European Studies (CES) was established in the year of 2000, after the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi took part in the project PHARE RO 9706-01-02 "Establishment of Centre of Excellence in European Studies".

Currently, the Centre works as an inter-faculty department, associating resources from different areas of European Studies (Economics, Law, History, Political and Administrative Sciences, Geography, Regional Development etc.) in order to develop specific programmes of education, research, professional training and information / documentation.

The Centre organizes education and training programmes through interdisciplinary and specialized studies of master or postgraduate short courses, conducts research and counselling in the field of European studies, European Neighbourhood Policy, Eastern Partnership, project management and regional development, participates in national and international programmes of cooperation in education and research, and promotes information, debate and dialogue on Europe and European integration through conferences, seminars and scientific publications.

The Centre for European Studies initiates and participates in research programs in collaboration with other universities, Centres and institutions from Romania and other EU and neighbouring countries. As far as the publications produced by the Centre for European Studies are concerned our flagship publication initiative has been the launch of our biannual journal, the Eastern Journal of European Studies, indexed in numerous international databases.
