My research interests lie in the fields of European Law and Labour Law (national, European and comparative), and I have published widely in these areas. I hold an undergraduate degree and a PhD in Law from the University of Edinburgh, and an LL.M from the University of London (SOAS). In 2011, my PhD thesis was awarded the ETUC's Brian Bercusson Award for the best PhD thesis to have been submitted in European Labour Law between 2006 and 2010. I am one of the country experts (Germany) on the project 'Access to citizenship in Europe' run by a consortium of European universities and have written reports for the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Public Services' Union. I am the Secretary of UACES (2014-2017) and the Labour Law Section Convenor for the Society of Legal Scholars (2015-2018). My current research projects explore the socio-legal nature of European labour law and the historical development of collective labour law in Germany and the UK.
