Presenting

When will I know if my proposal has been accepted?

We aim to inform everyone of the outcome of their proposal in March 2018.

Where is this year's conference?

University of Lisbon, Portugal. Please see our Getting There page for travel advice.

What are the requirements for the conference paper?

Papers for the conference should be word-processed, 1.5 spaced and sized to A4. They should not exceed 7,000 to 8,000 words in length, including footnotes and references. Papers should be shared amongst panellists before 19 August.

Paper-givers are also encouraged to submit an electronic copy of their paper for publication on the ConfTool programme so that other delegates can access it. This helps to improve the overall level of discussion at the conference itself. The suggested deadline for uploading papers is 19 August 2019. Please see the Paper and Panel Instructions page for more guidelines.

Do paper-givers, chairs and discussants have to pay a registration fee?

Yes. Travel, accommodation and the conference registration fee are the responsibility of the participant whether they are a paper-giver, discussant, chair or panel organiser. There is travel support available for postgraduate students and early-career researchers attending the conference (find out more). Please also explore funding opportunities from your university or organisation.

Can I choose the day on which I present?

No. By submitting a proposal you are making a firm commitment towards attending the conference and for being available to present your paper on any day of the conference i.e. from Monday 2 to Wednesday 4 September 2019.

There are no research sessions on Sunday 1 September, but please do join us for the Teaching and Learning Workshop, UACES AGM, and welcome drinks.

What is the format of the research sessions?

Please visit this page for full details of research session formats.

Please note: The sessions are 90 minutes. Paper-givers will have a maximum of 15 minutes each in which to make a short presentation of their paper at the conference. It is important that this time allocation is not exceeded as the presentation is intended as an introduction to the following discussion. It will not be possible to read the paper in the time available and all paper-givers should adequately prepare their presentation with this in mind.

Is there funding available for students?

Yes. Postgraduate students and early-career researchers benefit from discounted registration fees and are eligible to apply for funding for travel costs from UACES.

I am not a UACES member. Can I attend the conference?

Yes. Researchers new to UACES are always welcome to the conference. UACES membership is included in the non-members registration fee. New members will be eligible for all members’ benefits.

How can I prepare for the conference?

If this is your first conference, you may find it helpful to read these articles on preparing to present at a conference, the benefits of attending conferences, and on academic networking.
