Quo vadis, Europe? 15 years after the biggest enlargement of the EU

Poznan, Poland

11 April 2019

Department of European Studies of the Poznan University of Economics and Business (Poland)

is pleased to invite you to attend the international academic conference „Quo vadis, Europe?
15 years after the biggest enlargement of the EU" to be held on April 11, 2019 at the Poznan University of Economics and Business.

Nearly 15 years ago we witnessed one of the most important events in the history of the European integration - the enlargement of the European Union by 10 new Member States, including Poland. It was a remarkable event both from the perspective of our country and region, as well as that of the whole continent, with its historical significance placing it among the most important events in recent history. The upcoming 15th anniversary of the biggest enlargement in the history of the EU is an excellent opportunity to summarise its outcomes. We would like this conference to serve as an opportunity to analyse the results and to review the state of the European integration process itself as well as the challenges that lay ahead for the European Union and its Member States.

The conference focuses mainly around three strands:

  • EU after the biggest enlargement (i.a. economic, social, political and legal aspects of the European integration of the new Member States; experiences of the 15 years of membership, the functioning of the internal market in the EU, European Funds as a support to development and integration in the EU, European funds in the perspective of 2021-2027, the role of the European Union in the global economy)
  • The integration of Poland with the European Union (i.a. economic, social, political and legal aspects of the integration of Poland with the EU; experiences of the 15 years of membership; structural changes in the Polish economy after accession, regional development in Poland in the light of EU cohesion policy, competitiveness of Polish enterprises on the EU market)
  • Challenges of the EU (i.a. Brexit, internal challenges of the integration, the future of the EU, migration, refugee crisis, the EU in the modern world and facing global challenges).

The first deadline for the papers submission is January 28 (with possible extension).
