Researching Brexit Conference Call for Abstracts
The Researching Brexit Conference will focus on the
challenges and opportunities presented by researching Brexit for PhD
researchers, and will take place on 25
and 26 February 2019 at Queen's University Belfast. The conference will
appeal to PhD Candidates at all stages of their research with each panel
covering a different thematic area relating to how Brexit has impacted their
research. From candidates near the end of the PhD for whom Brexit has emerged
as a new dimension to those just starting out who are dealing with the demands
of studying a fluid research topic.
The aim of this conference is to give PhD researchers the opportunity to reflect on their experience of research, share this with others, and to lead to fruitful discussion of how to overcome challenges and maximise opportunities going forward.
We invite paper proposals from all disciplines from PhD candidates whose research is focussed on Brexit, or heavily influenced by Brexit;Topics that papers may consider;
· How Brexit was built into the research proposal
· How the researcher adapted their research project to include Brexit
· The opportunities Brexit created in a research area
· The challenges of researching Brexit as an evolving topic
· The position of the researcher in researching a contentious political project
· How the researcher discovered they were researching Brexit
These are just a small number of ideas to give a flavour of the nature of the conference, any ideas concerning the process of researching Brexit and reflexivity will be considered.
The panels will be followed by a session on the future: how we as attendees can work together to make an impact; next steps for attendees; and future collaboration.
The conference will produce a working paper which will comprise reflections from the session panellists and the thoughts of conference attendees. This short guide on the challenges and opportunities of Brexit in academic research will then be launched in Spring/Summer 2019.
Please submit biographies and abstracts of up to 250 words for papers of between 10-15 minutes before the closing date of 18th December to email@example.com.
