Exeter is one of the UK's most popular and successful universities with the Streatham campus widely regarded as one of the most attractive in Britain. A research-led institution, in the last (2008) Research Assessment Exercise the department of Politics was ranked 6th in the country. The Jean Monnet Centre for European Governance is strongly research-oriented with concentration in four areas: EU public policy, European elections, the European media and EU legal studies. Exeter has a high concentration of European Union experts who are integrated into wider national and international research networks, namely Claudio Radaelli, Grace Davie, Dario Castiglione, Susan Banducci, Stephen Wilks, Alison Harcourt, Claire Dunlop, Andrew Massey, Karen McAuliffe, Duncan Russel, James Griffin, Leone Niglia, Oliver James, Bruce Doern, Francesco Stolfi, Atina Krajewska, Charlotte Waelde and Nicole Bolleyer. Regular seminars and workshops are held with high profile external speakers. The Centre offers an MA in European Politics and an MA in European Media Studies. Exchange programmes for staff and students exists with the Centres d'études européennes de Sciences-Po in Paris and the VUB in Brussels.
