Ana Isabel Xavier holds a PhD in International Relations (European Studies), from the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra, Portugal, with a dissertation entitled "The European Union and Human Security: a crisis management global player in search of a strategic culture?". She also holds a bachelor degree in International Relations and a master in Sociology (from the same Faculty) and a specialised course on Human Rights and Democratization from the Law Faculty in Coimbra. She is Invited Assistant Professor of the Political Studies Department in Nova University (Lisbon, Portugal) and a Research Fellow in the International Relations Portuguese Institute (IPRI).Ana Isabel Xavier is frequently invited by civilian and military institutions for conferences and lectures on security and defence as well as on the European Union, namely in the Air Force Academia both on the Basic Command and on the Promotion to Sergeant Chief Courses. She is the head of the European Studies section of the Portuguese Political Science Association (APCP). In 2015 she was awarded with the Marshall Memorial Fellowship by the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
