Raphael Bossong is research associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, where is responsible for EU Justice and Home Affairs, or European internal security issues. Previously, he held various research and teaching positions at Europe University Viadrina, the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy, Hamburg and the Global Public Policy Institute, Berlin. His research interests span across the breadth of transnational non-military security cooperation, with a special emphasis on the governance of counterterrorism, borders security and disaster management. His recent book publications include Theorising EU Internal Security Cooperation (with Mark Rhinard; 2016, Oxford University Press), EU Borders and Shifting Internal Security (with Helena Carrapico; 2016, Springer International) and European Civil Security Governance (with Hendrik Hegemann; 2015, Palgrave Macmillan). Raphael Bossong holds an MA and PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) and an BA in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge University.
