Funding for Conferences and Events
This funding stream is for organisers of one-off events, typically conferences or workshops. Applications for funding are assessed by members of a UACES Sub-Committee on a competitive basis. In addition to funding, UACES is able to promote events.
Ideally, the event is expected to feed back into other existing UACES activities (i.e. a panel at the Annual Conference, or a publication etc.). Interdisciplinary proposals which encourage the participation of younger academics are particularly welcome.
'Closed' events which are not open to new participants will not be considered. An event which forms part of an existing series of events is also unlikely to receive funding.
Please note, that UACES also has a funding stream to support the establishment of Collaborative Research Networks. There is a Call for Applications once a year which will is advertised on the UACES website, on the members' email list and in the UACES Newsletter.
This funding stream is NOT available to individuals wanting financial help to attend an event. It is for people organising events.

How much to apply for
Total funding requested from UACES should be no more than 40% of the overall costs for conferences (excluding staffing costs). This requirement is more relaxed for workshops, where a registration fee would not normally be charged. Typically, the full amount of £1,000 is reserved for larger events, attracting 80-100 (or more) delegates.
Eligible expenses for which the money from UACES may be used are:
* Travel expenses for invited speakers
* Accommodation for invited speakers
* Subsidised registration fees for students
* Travel expenses for students
* Room Hire
* Audio Visual Equipment Hire
* Refreshments and Meals
* Administration costs (specifically photocopying, telephone and postage)
Selection criteria
Our expectations
* There should be full access for UACES members (preferably with a reduced registration fee)
* UACES should be acknowledged on the programme and in all publicity associated with the event
* UACES would like its logo included on the programme and on the event website (if there is one)
* UACES would like to distribute publicity material at the event
* Ideally the final session should incorporate policy oriented issues
* UACES would ask for one complimentary place to be made available
Requirements after completion of event
* A plain-English summary (up to 500 words) of the event for UACES News and the website. Please note that the report will be read by a wider audience than academics and your report should therefore be accessible and relevant to non-academic audiences too
* Digital photos for possible inclusion in the UACES newsletter
* A completed Claim Form (to be provided by UACES) with receipts and invoices to enable payment
* A financial statement supplying a final breakdown of actual income and expenditure for the conference
* If a publication is produced, UACES would expect to be acknowledged for its support
