The City

Passau Innpromenade Located in the southern foothills of the Bavarian National Forest and situated on the border with Austria, Passau is one of Europes most beautiful cities. At the Eastern end of the city, the River Ilz and the River Inn flow into the Danube. It is no surprise, then, that Passau is known as the Dreiflssestadt or City of Three Rivers.

The dramatic scenery provides an impressive backdrop to the picturesque Old Town, built by Italian baroque masters in the 17th Century. At its centre is St Stephens cathedral, home to the worlds second largest church organ.

The city also boasts museums and art galleries, two castles and a huge selection of restaurants, bars and shops. Of course, no trip to Bavaria would be complete without sampling the regions famous beers and Passaus many beer gardens are on hand to cater to all thirsty UACES delegates.

The University

University of Passau Founded in 1978, the University of Passau has built an excellent reputation for its teaching and research, particularly in the areas of Economics, Law and Cultural Studies. Passau was one of the first universities in Germany to offer BA and MA programmes in European Studies.

The university maintains an interdisciplinary approach to European Studies and courses encompass aspects of Public Policy, Sociology, History, Cultural Studies and Languages as well as Political Science.

Located on the banks of the river Inn, a stone’s throw from the old town centre, the University offers a stunning setting for its 9000 students to study and, of course, for UACES to convene its next conference.
