The Participation of Greece in the European Defence Agency
Nikos Karampekios, University of St. Gallen
A lot of work has been done on exploring the role and functions of EDA in relation to EU's defence priorities, in terms of armaments collaboration, industrial policy, etc. However, a topic that has been unaccounted for is the aspirations and achievements of the participating member states in EDA. This paper is a cross-thematic study assessing the track record of a given participating member state (Greece) in EDA. It employs a two-level of analysis approach. The first examines Greece's activation in relation to the various EDA legislation and policy proposals, and assesses the degree of pressure national (Greek) priorities exerted on the final outcome of these proposals. In addition, domestic management and bureaucratic structures for coping with EDA structures are evaluated. Secondly, on the technological and industrial level, an analysis is undertaken relating to the Greek technological and industrial actors participating in the relevant research projects.
