Our Hosts
The City
Leeds is the cultural, financial and commerical heart of West Yorkshire. It is the largest centre for business, legal and financial services in the UK outside of London.
With a population of over 750,000, Leeds has plenty to offer UACES delegates. It is home to world-class theatres and has its own ballet and opera companies (Northern Ballet and Opera North). There are numerous museums and galleries including the Royal Armouries and the Henry Moore Institute.
Leeds is a haven for shoppers and is also the perfect place to enjoy a pint of British real ale in one of the city's many traditional (and non-traditional) pubs.
The attractions continue outside the city, with the famous Yorkshire Dales, the Bronte sisters' house at Haworth and the historic Harewood House all on the doorstep.
The University
Founded in 1904, the University of Leeds has a unique heritage that stretches back over 100 years. Leeds is one of the original members of the prestigious Russell Group, the 20 leading research universities in the UK, and is well known throughout the world for the quality of its teaching and research.
Academic excellence is at the heart of the University’s strategy and the education Leeds's students receive is informed by the latest research; courses are taught by staff engaged in world-class research and cutting-edge professional practice.
The School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) is a vibrant and innovative school where academic research informs and ignites our teaching. The School has over 35 academics, and the department is one of the largest of its kind in the UK. The open and friendly environment within POLIS attracts people from a wide variety of backgrounds; their diverse opinions and outlooks create an exciting environment for study at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Over 30,000 students study at the University and the single-site campus is just a short walk from the thriving city centre, making Leeds the perfect place to live and learn.
