BISA European Security Working Group: 2nd Workshop

Birmingham, United Kingdom

14-15 December 2017

The second workshop of the BISA European Security Working Group wishes to explore the range of security concerns at play in Europe's neighbourhood and beyond, as well as the challenges that trigger such concerns. It also aims at discussing how the recent political and economic developments in Europe have been shaping EU and national foreign policies and, in particular, Europe's capacity to pursue security goals and export European norms relating to democracy and the rule of law. The workshop organisers welcome panel and paper proposals on the following topics:

  • IR theory and the conceptualisation of Europe's neighbourhood;
  • Hybrid threats and European comprehensive responses;
  • The external dimension of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice;
  • Transatlantic relations and the future of Europe's regional security;
  • Turkey and European Security in the neighbourhood;
  • A post-Brexit European Neighbourhood Policy;
  • The UK as the new 'neighbour';
  • Syria and Ukraine: protracted conflicts in the neighbourhood;

Panel and paper proposals should be submitted to Helena Farrand Carrapico.
