As the Lisbon Treaty finally enters into force, Jonathan Faull reflects upon how the Treaty is likely to change the functioning of the EU Institutions. How will the Barroso II Commission operate under the new Treaty? Will the changes make for a more effective and dynamic Council under new President Van Rompuy? And will the new Parliament be able to increase its influence with regard to Commission and Council?

The UACES Brussels Arena is an innovative series of lunchtime debates in Brussels that offer academics and practitioners an opportunity to exchange ideas and to keep abreast of the state-of-the-art in Contemporary European Studies.

The series presents new ideas for a changing Europe with speakers who challenge conventional wisdom in the policy-making world. The speakers have an academic expertise and the Arena offers the invited speakers the opportunity to receive constructive feedback on research-in-progress from a broad, multidisciplinary audience of mainly Brussels-based practitioners of EU policy making, with an interest in policy-relevant research.

This event is free to attend and open to current UACES members and those considering joining the association.
