College of Europe
UACES provides the channel for recruiting students from the UK for the Master’s Programme at the College of Europe through the UK Committee for the College of Europe, which operates from a separate office.
Interested students are required to complete both an application form from the College of Europe AND an eligibility form from the Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills.
The College of Europe now requires application forms on line as well as well as hard copies. The College of Europe operates at two campuses, one in Brugge, Belgium and the other at Natolin, near Warsaw, Poland. The following programmes are offered: Politics/Administration, EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies, European Law, and European Economics at Bruges, together with specific specialisations, and a pluri-disciplinary programme with emphasis on Central and East European Studies at Natolin.
A working knowledge of French (sufficient for writing as well as speaking) and a relevant degree of good standard (usually at least 2/1) is a requirement of the College.
The British Government has made a generous allocation of scholarships for students from the UK, a number being reserved for those domiciled in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Residence requirements have to be observed. 28 scholarships are currently available. Interviews for short-listed students are held in March by the UK Committee for the College of Europe, which includes academics based in the UK who teach at the College of Europe.
Applications should include two academic references, a CV indicating your studies and grades obtained, a copy of your final degree or, if you are still an undergraduate, University transcripts, French ‘A’ level results and a Certificate indicating your knowledge of French, if available. Applicants who do not own a typewriter may use a black biro but are advised to stick in a computer printout for the Motivation section which should not exceed a half page. Please do not staple your documents as they may have to be photocopied.
In addition it is mandatory to complete the Eligibility Form which should be returned direct to the DIUS at the address stated on the form.
(NB Applications to the College of Europe should be sent to the addresses provided above and not to UACES). General information on UACES, the University Association for Contemporary European Studies, and its Student Forum, may be found on www.uaces.org/. UACES is a professional association exchanging ideas on Europe, and will be of interest to those interested in studying at the College of Europe.
