Drawing on the notion of Europeanisation and fresh empirical data obtained via content analysis, postal surveys and elite interviewing, this paper seeks to examine the development of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy in the EU and reflect on its relationship with the development of CSR policy at the national level in a number of EU member states. The paper will particularly focus CSR policy in the UK and France, highlighting similarities and differences. In addition, the paper will especially examine the role played by business interests in conveying values and ideas up to the EU level and down to the national arena.
