Top Civil Servants and
New
Public Management Reforms in Europe
Organiser: Véronique Dimier, European Institute of Public Administration
14 June 2002 Paris, France
This
workshop, will be the third of a series partly funded by the French Conseil
National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).
It is a project which aims
to bring together junior and senior scholars from different countries who
specialise in the study of public institutions, public officials and public
policies in order to address an issue which is simple, important but rather
neglected today: the place of senior civil servants within the governing
processes of our societies.
This UACES sponsored workshop will focus on the strategic importance of the New Public Management reforms for the top civil servants in the European institutions and national states. Two main questions will be dealt with, by looking at EU and national administrations: a) the meaning and the importance of the “new” administrative models for European and national civil servants b) the involvement and participation of top civil servants in the making of the managerial reforms.
Both English and French are the working languages of the project: papers can be written and will be delivered orally either in one or the other language.
