European Political Economy
Organiser: Dr Ben Rosamond, University of Warwick and Mr Andreas Gofas, University of Birmingham
Meeting 1: July 2005 (tbc)
This group provides a concrete focal point for an international team of researchers working on the rise of neoliberalism in Europe from a variety of ‘subjectivist’ perspectives. In brief, the aim is twofold:
By assembling a group where different theoretical traditions (soft rational choice, constructivism, discourse analysis, sociological institutionalism, neogramscianism, critical realism) can interact, we aspire to enhance discussion across theoretical traditions, explore the potential for convergence and/or cross-fertilisation and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of subjective variables.
By focusing on the rise of neoliberalism the group provides a common empirical ground, where these different traditions can work together to provide a deeper comparative understanding of the growth, diffusion and impact of neoliberal ideas in Europe.
