Three key aspects of the role of the EU as an international environmental actor will be examined at this one-day conference:

1. The Treaty commitment to the EU’s contribution to the alleviation of regional and global environmental problems (focus especially on the post Kyoto developments)
2. The role of the EU in the development of a new European security order based on environmental co-operation
3. The cost of implementing the environmental acquis in the candidate state of Central and Eastern Europe.
