29th Annual Conference:
The State of the Union: Europe, the UK and Scotland

University of Glasgow, Thursday 7 - Saturday 9 January 1999
Ref: 9901

All students of modern Europe are preoccupied with monetary union, eastern enlargement, regional devolution, agricultural reform, and constitutional change. Mostly, we study and debate such changes in hypothetical terms. However, 1999 will mark a defining moment in the evolution of the political ‘real world’. This conference offers an in-depth view of the ‘State of the Union’, particularly the transformation of relations between the European Union, the United Kingdom and Scotland.  The conference takes place at the University of Glasgow (www.glas.ac.uk).

Speakers will include David Martin MEP, Viscount Younger, Sir David Williamson, Donald Dewar MP, Sir John Kerr, and Jim Currie.

Registrations: please complete registration form accessible below.   Please note the conference venue is three miles outside the centre of Glasgow and NOT in the University of Glasgow main building.  We shall however be travelling by coach to the main University of Glasgow building on Friday 8/1/99 for the Conference Dinner in Bute Hall.

Programme (32kb PDF file).
