Germany and the Future of Europe:
The Constitution Debate and the German Presidency

Edinburgh, UK
28 February - 1 March 2007

Ref:0732

A conference of the Europa Institute, University of Edinburgh. Supported by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and UACES and held in association with the James Madison Trust and the Institute for German Studies, University of Birmingham

The conference has a twofold aim:

1.       To review and debate the priorities Germany will bring to its Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2007, and the potentials for building effective coalitions around those priorities

2.       To put current German policy into a longer term analytical context, including the presentation of findings from a research project on the German contribution to the EU constitution debate and a debate around differing interpretations of Germany’s engagement with the European integration process.
