Travel Information
An excellent resource for planning journeys within the UK is the Transport Direct website, which can be used to plan journeys by both public transport or by car.
Travel information and a variety of maps can also be found on the University of Portsmouth website.
The Conference takes place in Park Building, University of Portsmouth, King Henry I Street, Portsmouth PO1 2DZ. Registration is in the Resources Centre on the ground floor of the Park Building. Park Building is next to The Guildhall, a five minute walk from Portsmouth & Southsea train station. Delegates who have pre-booked accommodation are staying in the James Watson Hall of Residence, White Swan Road, Portsmouth, PO1 2DF, which is down the road opposite Park Building.
Speakers who are staying in the Express by Holiday Inn, Gunwharf Quays, wishing to register there first, should travel on to Portsmouth Harbour Station. This is the last station on the line, and is very close to the hotel. It is approx 1 km from the hotel to the conference venue.

Of the four airports servicing London, the most convenient for an onward journey to Portsmouth is Gatwick airport, to the south of London. There is a direct line from Gatwick to Portsmouth, from the station inside Gatwick airport (journey time is 1.5 hours with trains depart hourly).
If arriving at Heathrow airport, there is a coach service operated by South West Trains, which takes you from the airport to Woking, where you can catch the train to Portsmouth. The coach journey takes 50 minutes, and leaves from Heathrow Central Bus Station every 30 minutes. The train service from Woking takes 1 hour 10 minutes. There is usually a 20 minute stop-over at Woking.
If you arrive via Stansted or Luton airports, you will need to journey into central London first before catching a train to Portsmouth.
Portsmouth is also close to Southampton International Airport.
Portsmouth is relatively close to London by train.
The train station to get off at is called 'Portsmouth and Southsea Station' - it is walking distance from there to the University. The next station along, 'Portsmouth Harbour Station' is at the end of the line - it is still in Portsmouth, but it is less convenient.
Information about rail services in the UK can be found on the National Rail website. Tickets can be bought direct from the rail companies or online at Qjump.
Portsmouth is served by a number of train operators. South West Trains operate services from London Waterloo via the Portsmouth Direct Line. Fast trains leave London Waterloo station every 30 minutes and take 1.5 hours. Train services from London Victoria are slower.
Eurostar from Brussels and Paris is very convenient for Portsmouth - it comes into Waterloo International and it is simply a change of platforms for a fast train to Portsmouth.
From Gatwick, the train operator may be any combination of South West Trains, First Great Western, or Southern.
There is also a budget train operator, MegaTrain, that provides services from London Waterloo to Portsmouth and Southsea for as little as £1.00.
The budget coach service, MegaBus, operates between London and Portsmouth. The journey takes approximately 3 hours. In London, MegaBus use the 'Greenline Coach Station' on Bulleid Way which is near Victoria station. In Portsmouth, the coach service terminates at 'The Hard' stop. For the University, you should get off at 'Winston Churchill Avenue' before you get to 'The Hard' stop.
National Express also operate between London and Portsmouth, as well as offering services from the various airports serving London into central London. National Express use 'Victoria Coach Station' in London and their service terminates at 'The Hard' stop.
