UACES is able to offer delegates good quality accommodation in the James Watson Halls of Residence. The modern halls, opened in September 2003, are located in the heart of the University’s city campus and are a 5 minute walk from the conference venue. It offers single occupancy rooms, all with en-suite facilities including a shower, toilet and hand basin. Breakfast, at the nearby Anglesea building, is included.
Accommodation does not necessarily have to booked at the same time as the Registration fee, but please note that we cannot accept bookings for accommodation after Monday 13th August.
Delegates who would prefer to stay at a hotel, or who are looking for a double room, can find suggestions on our website under Frequently Asked Questions.
The Conference Dinner and Reception will take place on Tuesday 4th September on board the 'HMS Warrior' and is included in the Registration fee.
The pride of Queen Victoria, the 'HMS Warrior' revolutionised warship construction. Powered by steam and sail, she was the largest and fastest ship of her day. Her most radical innovation was her citadel - an armoured box housing her guns. Launched in 1860, the 'HMS Warrior' was described by Napoleon III as "the black snake amongst the rabbits". She could outrun and outgun any ship afloat, yet within a decade, she was obsolete. The ship has been fully restored and is moored permanently in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Extra places at the Conference Dinner (for partners etc.) should be booked before Monday 13th August.
A Walking Tour of Portsmouth Harbour has been arranged for Monday 3/9/07. It will commence at 09:15 from the James Watson Halls of Residence. The fee includes the entrance fee to the Spinnaker Tower.
The Walking Tour does not have to booked at the same time as the Registration fee, but please note, that we cannot accept bookings for the tour after Monday 13th August.
Funding to Support Attendance for Students
UACES provides funding to assist students in two ways:
Registration fees for students to attend have been heavily subsidised.
In addition, student members of UACES have access to the UACES travel scheme. This scheme has been designed to provide funds for travel assistance where students do not have any access to other funding.
For most students, registration fees and associated expenses, are paid for by their University Department, particularly for those students who are actively participating in the conference by presenting a paper.
