What
are Portsmouth and the University like?
Portsmouth is a small city of approx. 200,000 people. The city is a unique blend of seaside resort & naval heritage.
The
University is a city campus; the conference venue (the Park building), the accommodation
(James Watson Hall), the
train station (Portsmouth & Southsea Station), shops, restaurants etc. are all in close proximity to each
other.
When will I find out if my paper
proposal has been accepted or not?
Friday 30 March 2007.
How much will the conference cost?
The Registration Fee is £170
for UACES members and £210 for non-members. The fee for students has been
discounted. The Registration Fee includes the Conference Dinner, but does not
include accommodation.
Will there be any social
events?
Yes.
Sunday, 2nd September (evening) - there will be an informal gathering in the evening for those arriving early. We suggest meeting at a traditional pub called 'The Old Customs House' at Gunwharf Quays, which serves both food and drink. There should be other delegates at the pub from around 7 until 10pm. [Location Map]
Monday, 3rd September (morning) - a walking tour of Portsmouth Harbour including a visit to the Spinnaker Tower (see the Registration form as pre-booking is required)
Monday, 3rd September (evening) - drinks reception (included in Registration Fee)
Tuesday, 4th September (evening) - Conference Dinner and Reception on board the HMS Warrior (included in Registration Fee)
I am
presenting a Research Paper: do I have to pay the conference registration fee?
Yes.
I am
chairing a Research Panel: do I have to pay the conference registration fee?
Yes.
I am
presenting a Research Paper: when do I have to register?
Ideally, before 17 May 2007 (the
sooner the better).
I am
presenting a Research Paper: when has my paper been scheduled for?
We will publish the research
programme to the website as soon as is practical. This will be after 17 May
2007 - probably the first week of June. Once the paper-givers have registered we can start arranging the
research programme.
I am
presenting a Research Paper: will I be able to use
PowerPoint?
Yes - you will
need to bring your presentation on a memory
stick.
I am
presenting a Research Paper: will there be an Overhead Projector (OHP)?
Yes and No - you
will need to bring your presentation
on both transparencies and on
plain paper (A4 size) as some rooms have OHPs
and some have Visualisers.
Is there funding
available to help support my attendance?
No. If any opportunities do
arise, we will advertise them on this website.
What are
the accommodation arrangements?
The University is able to offer delegates good quality accommodation in
the James Watson Halls of Residence. The modern halls, opened in September
2003, are located in the heart of the University’s city campus and are
5-minute walk from the conference venue. It offers single occupancy
rooms, all with en-suite facilities including a shower, toilet and hand basin.
This accommodation should be booked through UACES (see the Registration form
for bookings).
