Leading Europe? The UK EU Presidency Evaluated

The UK Presidency commenced on 1 July against the backdrop of ‘no’ votes in France and the Netherlands on the EU Constitutional Treaty and an acrimonious summit under the Luxembourg Presidency in mid-June which failed to reach a deal on the EU budget. For many commentators the EU was in deep crisis.

How did the UK Presidency respond effectively to the EU’s difficulties? This one day conference provides a detailed examination of the UK EU Presidency examining both the manner in which it functioned – and also whether the UK Presidency realised its objectives.
