All information in this section should be checked independently, particularly departure times for flights and trains. These are not recommendations, but are to give you some ideas of the options available.

BY PLANE

Limerick is served by Shannon International Airport which is approximately 16 miles from the University campus.

A selection of Aer Lingus flights from London Heathrow and Dublin to Limerick Shannon are listed below. Aer Lingus also offer direct flights from Boston, Chicago (O'Hare), Dallas, Denver, Dubai, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St Louis & Washington.

Ryanair

Limerick Shannon is a major hub for Ryanair and they offer direct flights from Biarritz, Bristol, Brussels (Charleroi), Carcassonne, Düsseldorf (Weeze), East Midlands, Faro, Frankfurt (Hahn), Girona (Barcelona), Glasgow (Prestwick), Krakow, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Malaga, Manchester, Milan (Bergamo), Murcia (Alicante), Nantes (Brittany), Paris (Beauvois), Rome (Ciampino), Venice (Treviso) and Wroclaw.

EasyJet

EasyJet only offer direct flights to Limerick Shannon from London Gatwick.

BY TRAIN

Regular rail services connect Limerick with Dublin, Cork, Tralee, Killarney, and (via Dublin) with Belfast, Sligo and Westport. Please visit the Irish Rail website for details of routes and timetables.

BY CAR

From Limerick City
Take the Dublin Road out of the city and travel approx two miles to the Parkway roundabout. Go straight through at this roundabout. At the next roundabout, turn left and follow the signs for the University.

From the Dublin/Nenagh approach to Limerick City
After the village of Annacotty, turn right at the first roundabout you meet as you approach Limerick (Sign for the National Technological Park). Follow the road for one mile through the Technological Park until you see the sign for the University entrance on your right.

From Cork/Kerry
Before Patrickswell, take the Limerick exit off the Croom Bypass. Follow the ring road and take the exit for Limerick City. Turn right at the T junction and follow the signs for Dublin and the University.

Please note that parking outside of designated car parks will result in clamping.

BY COACH

For the intrepid traveller, it is possible to get to Limerick by coach using the National Express / Eurolines network. The shortest journey from London to Limerick is an epic 16 hours and includes a ferry crossing from Fishguard in Wales.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS

Buses and taxis link the airport to Limerick city centre. Taxi services from Shannon Airport cost €30 on average. Car Hire services are also available from the airport.

JJ Kavanagh operates a bus service from Shannon Airport to University of Limerick coach stand.  Please check their website for latest details.  As of May 2006 it leaves the airport at the following times: 06.30, 10.30, 12.30, 14.30, 20.45 hrs (Mon-Sat).

Return times (as of May 2006) from University of Limerick coach stand to Shannon airport (Front Gate) are: 05.40, 09.00, 11.00, 13.00, 15.00, 19.45 hrs (Mon-Sat).  Please check their website for latest details and travel times on Sunday.  The fare for this service is €6 single or €10 return.

There is a regular bus service between the campus and the city centre. A bus ticket costs approximately €0.95. From the bus stop near the Centra shop in William Street, take the bus for the University or Plassey (usually a No.308 or No.302 bus).
