The European Union: New Neighbours, New Challenges

Hosted by the European Research Institute at The University of Birmingham, the conference will offer delegates an opportunity to reflect on the enlarged European Union and to consider its future. The conference will comprise a mixture of plenary and research panel sessions. The four plenary sessions will look at:
Wider Europe: The EU and Its New Eastern Neighbours
What Kind of Borders in the Post-Enlargement EU?
EU and Security: A European 'Strategic Doctrine'?
The New EU Political Order (bringing together leading journalists on European affairs)
There will also be five sessions of research panels covering a wide range of aspects on European integration. The Conference Dinner will take place at the scenic Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, with the after-dinner speech to be given by Sir David Edward, former judge at the Court of Justice.
