The European Parliament at Fifty

Aberystwyth, Wales, 12 - 13 July 2002

Ref: 0232

In 2002, the European Parliament celebrates its 50th birthday. From humble beginnings as the Common Assembly, the EP has experienced considerable growth in powers and is central to current ‘constitutional’ debates in the Union. This conference will bring together leading researchers and prominent practitioners to explore the development of the EP, the internal politics of the chamber and the contribution the parliament can make to the EU in the 21st century.

A special issue of the JCMS (Journal of Common Market Studies), due out in April 2003, will include papers from this conference.
