Europe, its Near Abroad and the EU's Expanding External Relations Agenda

Liverpool, 9 November 2001
Ref 0136

A one-day conference marking the launch of the new Europe in the World Centre (EWC) at the University of Liverpool. This UACES sponsored conference will focus on Europe and its near abroad, highlighting challenges facing the EU as it expands its linkages with neighbouring states and regions, thus adding to a growing external relations agenda. In particular, debate will focus upon actual and potential migration from east and south in the broader context of EU enlargement, the implications of European cohesion ideas and practices for surrounding areas, and democracy and human rights promotion.
