France and Europe: The French EU Presidency 2000 in Perspective

This one-day conference will examine the French Presidency of the European Union, July-December 2000. It will consider the presidency’s contribution to the ongoing key dossiers of European integration, including the IGC, and assess its significance for France’s relationship with the European Union. The morning session will bring together academics and practitioners seeking to provide an overview of the objectives, operation, and main outcomes of the six-month presidency. The contributors to the afternoon session will debate the policy and political issues central to contemporary French European policy. Both sessions will take the form of a round table, with contributions by speakers followed by general discussion.
